Company Details

Strava was founded in 2009 by Carlos Virella, Mark Gainey, Mark Shaw, Michael Horvath, and Yandong Liu. In February 2023, Horvath said that the company had no immediate plans to go public, but later clarified his view by saying that a public offering is "a means to an end and it’s something we would consider at the right time."

Strava is a social media app for athletes. Users can compare workouts, track progress, and share results. In 2022 and 2023, Strava acquired Recover Athletics and FATMAP. The company has raised more than $150 million in venture capital funding from investors including TCV, Sequoia Capital, Dragoneer Investment Group, Madrone Capital Partners, Jackson Square Ventures, and Go4it Capital. In 2020, Strava was seeking investors at a valuation of more than $1 billion. The resulting funding round brought in $110 million in fresh capital.
